Common Rules and Guidelines for Beginner and Advanced


1.   To facilitate fair judgment, it is required for parents to provide us with a copy of the poem the  child is reciting. 5 points will be awarded to those participants who send the poems to us in advance. Poem can be emailed to telugucontests@tcatelugubadi.org
2.  Child can participate only in one level – Beginner or Advanced based on his/her level of proficiency.
3.    Those who won the trophies in last year’s competitions, either in Beginner or Advanced levels of poem recitation are eligible to participate only in Advanced level (This rule applies to 5 to 14 age groups only. Children participated and won the prizes in under 5 age categories can still participate in Beginner level if their proficiency level is still in beginner level).
4.   If a child is capable of reciting a more complex poem, register them in Advanced level. Please check the Poem categories to choose the right poem for your child.
5.     Every contestant shall announce his/her name, source of the poem, author name before reciting.
6.   Points will be awarded based on overall presentation, pronunciation, clarity of expression and the ability to explain the meaning (other than for ages under 5 years).
7.    This is a Telugu contest - only Telugu poems must be recited. Sanskrit shlokas are not allowed. 
8.   Parents are not allowed to prompt the kids during recitation and notes are not allowed during poem recitation
9.   15 and above - Noncompetitive - Will be invited to showcase their skills - and we will award them a certificate. 
10.  The decision of the judges is final.

Rules /Guidelines
      Under 5 Age group - No need to say the meaning, No extra points will be given if they say the meaning.
     Under 5 Age group - No need to say the meaning, No extra points will be given if they say the meaning.
      Children in age groups 5 to 14 are encouraged to say the meaning in Telugu.
     Children in age groups 5 to 14 are expected to say the meaning in Telugu.
      Explaining the complete meaning in Telugu without using English words will give them up to 100% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation

     Explaining the complete meaning in Telugu without using English words will give them up to 100% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation
      Explaining the complete meaning in Telugu by using English sentences will give them up to 80% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation.

     Explaining the complete meaning in Telugu by using 2 to 3 English words will give them up to 80% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation.
      Explaining the complete meaning in English will give them up to 60% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation.

     Explaining the complete meaning in Telugu by using 4 to 5 English words will give them up to 70% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation.
      Children will be tested in overall presentation, pronunciation, clarity of expression, and the ability to explain the meaning
     Explaining the meaning in Telugu by using 1 or more sentences in English will give them up to 50% in Poem meaning section of the Poem recitation.
